KLFC Announces the Appointment of Tom Appleton to the position of
Music Director for 2010

We are delighted to announce that we have appointed Tom Appleton to the post of
Music Director for the King's Lynn Festival Chorus. He will take up the post in January
2010.
A Brief Overview About Our New Music Director

Tom started his musical career as a boy chorister in
the world famous St. Paul's Cathedral Choir in
London.

Once his voice had broken, he joined Gresham's
School in Norfolk on a major music scholarship.
While at Gresham's, Tom joined Mike Brewer OBE
and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain
(NYCGB), with whom he toured the world in 2003,
and sang at many sporting events including the
2006 FA Cup final!

After Gresham's, Tom read music at the University
of York. It was here that he began conducting and
teaching. Running a community choir kindled Tom's
love of amateur music making. He passionately
believes in the importance of music societies and
can often be found attending concerts given by
societies all over the country either as a soloist, or
as an audience member.
Having graduated with the highest recital mark in his year, Tom was awarded a
year-long apprenticeship with Sir John Eliot Gardiner and the Monteverdi Choir. He
enjoyed mentoring from Matthew Brook, and toured much of Europe with the group
as well as singing in the 2008 BBC Proms and Edinburgh Festival. At the end of his
apprenticeship, Tom was delighted to be asked to become a full member of the group
and has recently been a soloist with the Orchestra Revolutionnaire et Romantique as
they toured throughout Europe.

Tom combines his singing career with being a conductor, and as well as the Southend
Festival Chorus (SFC) and Orchestra, Tom is also the Musical Director of the Ipswich
Chamber Choir

Tom is in increasing demand as a guest conductor and recently he has worked with
the Suffolk Symphonia, the South Essex Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Halle Youth
Choir, Ludus Baroque, and Jubilee Opera. He is also often found working as a chorus
master and has prepared choirs for Sir David Willcocks, Sir Mark Elder, and Roy
Goodman.

Tom is now looking forward to working with the Chorus, and has already begun
preparing for an exciting and busy 2010 season.
