The info about MIDI files and MIDI players is now at the bottom of this page.
This page has a large number of 'MIDI' files on it. If you are unfamiliar with MIDI files
then click on please explain to get more information. If nothing happens when you click
once on a file, then you should definitely go and read the explanation for some hints as
to how to proceed. The dedicated MIDI page also explains how you can turn a MIDI file
into an MP3 file (IPOD etc), or a WAV file to make an audio CD.

The first version of the primer "How to make MIDI files", including "How to search
successfully for MIDI files on the web". Now that I will not be creating files from scratch,
several people have said 'well, could I do it?'. Of course you can- and here are some of
the things I have learned.

New MIDI Player Feature! (2nd March 2010)

In order to give you control over the tempo at which you listen to MIDI files (think
Bach), you can download simple instructions for how to install the MDI player. Print off
the two pages first and then click on this link to download Van Basco MIDI player. This
program is really great, and you can download it safely and for free from our site. I know
you don't like reading instructions, but it's very simple and the benefits are really worth
it.

NEWS Sept 2010...It seems that if you have a Windows 7 operating system on a
64-bit processor, then Van Basco may no longer run. This applies to a myriad of other
applications, not just Van Basco. Well done those brilliant people at Microsoft. Oh, and
for anyone interested, I've switched over to OpenOffice, which is totally free and really
good- and that means I no longer have to buy or fret about Microsoft Office. Open Office
outputs files in a format that Microsoft Word and other Office programs can read, so you
don't have to be concerned about that either.

This page has a large number of 'MIDI' files on it. If you are unfamiliar with MIDI files
then click on 'please explain' to get more information. If nothing happens when you click
once on a file, then you should definitely go and read the explanation for some hints as
to how to proceed. The dedicated MIDI page also explains how you can turn a MIDI file
into an MP3 file (IPOD etc), or a WAV file to make an audio CD

For the most faithful audio rendition of the files, right click on the part and choose 'save
as'- this will allow you to save the file to your disk, then you don't have to keep logging
on to listen.

Now then... a few Windows7 and Windows8 notes: you cannot run Van Basco under W7
and W8- all complaints to Bill Gates and Microsoft who ruin everything with their
ineffectual and bloated new products that offer no new real functionality. What you can
do is put your cursor on the filename and click with the right mouse. Now choose "save
as" and store to your computer. Now you can navigate to this file, double-click on it and
it will now load back in and play in Windows Media Player. Or 'right click' and 'open with'-
select Media Player. This is a perfectly functional solution.
